Warrior Defense Project – San Antonio, TX

How did you get your job?

I was offered the Deputy Senior Research Fellow position at the Warrior Defense Project after attending Sunday bible classes taught by Professor Addicott, who was also my section’s Federal Civil Procedure instructor. Building meaningful relationships as a young professional has helped me gain access to experiences that may otherwise have been more difficult to discover otherwise.

What was the most surprising thing you learned at your job?

The most surprising thing I learned at my job is understanding the dichotomy between military and civilian law. Military law governs in instances involving members of the Armed Forces, while both service-members and civilians are subject to civilian law. The different set of laws and rules greatly impact the dynamics of settling a case.

What do/did you like most about your job?

What I like most about my job is the professional training and development that I can take and apply to any area of legal practice. I intend to become an attorney-agent for the NFLPA, and through this experience I will be competent in negotiation translation, case management, and fundraising skills I gained from this role and apply them to more effectively advocate for my clients.
