How did you get your job?

I have an interest in Intellectual Property Law, so I asked my professors if they had any contacts in that field. One professor was able to put me in contact with another law student at St. Mary’s who worked for an IP attorney last summer. That student was able to refer me to the IP attorney who then hired me for this past summer.

What do/did you like most about your job?

The flexibility. I’m given an assignment and a certain amount of time to complete it. I’m not required to be anywhere at a specific time other than the occasional meeting. I’m able to work from home, I can go visit my parents for a week during the summer and bring my work with me, and I don’t have to work weekends if I don’t want to. It’s been pretty nice.

How do you think this experience has helped you in your career path?

There are a lot of different areas in Intellectual Property Law: Patent Prosecution, Patent Litigation, Copyright, Trademarks, etc. My summer experience has definitely allowed me to determine which areas I like and which areas I do not like.
