Biography

Elise Stubbe, J.D., is the Scholarly Initiatives Law Librarian at the Sarita Kenedy East Law Library at the St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas. She obtained her B.A cum laude with honors in Political Science with minors in history and economics from Newcomb College of Tulane University in 1998.

Stubbe earned her J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2002 where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Loyola Journal of Public Interest Law. She is a currently pursuing her Master of Science in Library Science with a concentration in law librarianship at the University of North Texas with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2027.

She is licensed to practice law in Louisiana (2002) and Texas (2009).

Prior to joining St. Mary’s Law, Stubbe practiced law in the areas of trademark law, copyright law, and motion/appellate practice with several private firms. She also worked as an attorney advisor for the Social Security Administration drafting decisions for Administrative Law Judges. 

At St. Mary’s Law, Stubbe’s focus is on assisting students with legal research and helping them realize full access to the library’s vast resources. She is also the advisor for the Dean’s Research Fellows and a Writing Coach for Legal Research and Writing. Her areas of expertise are case law, statutory and secondary source research and efficient search methods. Her areas of interest include copyright/fair use issues facing libraries, fostering literacy in Boolean searching and mastering terms and connectors, and developing library resources. 

In her free time, Stubbe enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, traveling, learning piano, writing and reading.
