Rosa Peterson Catholic Charities

How did you get your job?

I obtained my internship at Catholic Charities through a job listing on CORE. Originally, I was slated for an in-person interview shortly after Spring Break. However, due to COVID-19, my interview was moved to a phone interview with Mr. Davis. I was fortunate enough to be offered the position, even with the uncertainty that we were all facing in back in March, and as the months progressed, the internship transitioned into a remote internship.

What do/did you like most about your job?

I love helping others, and so that is what I truly love most about my work with Catholic Charities. This is an organization that is designed to help those in need, and to protect those who are the most vulnerable. This internship has allowed me to begin sharpening my skills to become an advocate for the individuals that I will one day defend and protect, and I am very grateful for that opportunity.

How do you think this experience has helped you in your career path?

I believe that we can grow and learn from every opportunity that we are given. My time with Catholic Charities has allowed me to research areas of law that I was not as comfortable or familiar with as other areas when the summer began. Additionally, drafting documents during my internship has allowed me to become acquainted with forms that I will one day use in practice. These are all valuable tools that I will need to become the best possible advocate throughout my career.

What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned at this job?

The most valuable thing I have learned during this experience is that there is always more to learn about the law and that the greatest moments of relief can come from helping another person through some of the hardest moments of their life. By helping another person, we can help heal and that is a beautiful thing.
