The Law Office of Jonathan G. Watkins
How did you get your job?
I received my job through a classmate. She worked there before taking another opportunity. As she transitioned to her new job, I was put in contact with this attorney for whom I have been working since the 2nd semester of my 1L year.
What do you like the most about your job?
The thing I like most about my job is the freedom and trust that is given. He allows me to sit in on client meetings, write and file motions with the court, independently conduct jail visits with clients, communicate with court clerks/coordinators to reset cases, etc.
How do you think this experience has helped you in your career path?
This experience has helped tremendously. In my opinion, law school helps you learn what lawyers are supposed to know, but it does not prepare you on how to be a lawyer. The exposure gives you not only hands-on experience but allows you to actually see what you will be undergoing on a daily basis.
What is the most valuable thing you learned at this job?
The most valuable thing I have more so confirmed is that nothing beats hard work. In order to get the outcome and results that you want, you must be willing to put in the work necessary to achieve that. Hard work in law school is just the beginning of the road!
