In the seven years between graduating from St. Mary’s University School of Law and returning to join its Office of Law Success, Childress practiced consumer bankruptcy law, complex commercial litigation, insurance defense, probate, and construction law in San Antonio. Most notably, Childress successfully appealed a bankruptcy case to the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, Clark v. Viegelahn, which significantly changed the bankruptcy landscape for the Western District of Texas. Biography
Childress has spoken to the San Antonio Bankruptcy Bar Association on ethics, dischargeability of income tax debt, and treatment of claim-less mortgage debts. He also authored "Protecting the Rights of Claimants and Funds when the Lawyer Declares Bankruptcy" for the American Bar Association, Standing Committee on Client Protection, 29th National Forum on Client Protection.
Before practicing law, Childress clerked for the Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Texas, San Antonio Division, Ronald B. King.
